Post #129 (Hip Hop Thursday #11): Warren G w/ Nate Dogg- "Regulate"

Post #129 (Hip Hop Thursday #11):  Recently, I found out that on March 15th, Nate Dogg passed away from congestive heart failure.

I never got into his solo stuff, but I have always loved his collaborations with artists like Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, and of course on this one with Warren G.

He is best known for his singing style, like in this song.

I remember when I turned 18, listening to this with my friend Brian Margulies as we would make late night runs to Mystic Lake Casino.  I think we went there 2 maybe 3 times a week.  Every once in a while, making it home in the morning in time to get ready for school.

On one trip, we were so determined to get there, that despite it being a frigid cold winter, and his car's heat and defrost not working, and there being a layer of frost on the window that as soon as it was scraped off would return instantly making our visibility about 10%....we got there.

We would typically bring $20 each, because this was when they had $3 Blackjack.  I dreaded the chance of getting beat 6 straight times, which would leave me with $2.

One time we had a pretty good run at the same table, at the same time.  I think I was up $300 and he was up $400, and the pit boss came and asked for our names.  I was a nervous ball of energy.  I was shaking.  In customary Brian fashion he remained calm and gave an alias.  I sadly don't remember which one, but I have some ideas.  Larry Smacker, Larry Buckle, or maybe Larry Blostwich.

Great memories!

RIP Nate Dogg.
