Post #111: Mike Doughty - "The Gambler"

Post #111: Things are a little different here at the Harrah's in Kansas City than they are at the Harrah's in Las Vegas. Here in KC, there is absolutely nothing within walking distance of our hotel. We have to drive everywhere, so last night we drove downtown to the world famous bar-b-que joint Arthur Bryant's. It was awesome!

A second difference is that you have to pay for beer, and as we found out last night, they stop serving beer at 3 in the morning.

Regardless of the differences, there is one thing that has remained consistant...the gambling.

I can't think of any song that fits what I'm doing today more than "The Gambler" by Kenny Rogers.

The cool thing with a song like this is that it ends up being covered by numerous artists. Mike Doughty's is my favorite cover version, which was one of six songs on his Gambler EP released in 2005. It is an exclusive on itunes, so I encourage you to check it out, and of course buy it. It also has a cover of "King of Carrot Flowers" by Neutral Milk Hotel, a band that I posted back in January, here.
